Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
Frankie can't keep his eyes off her. A new girl Emilia a gypsy from Roumania and her family move into the housing estate. She wears a long red skirt, speaks no English and he can't stop thinking about her. She is put into Frankies class at school and he sits there obsessing about her. Frankie's mother leads the protests against the gypsys moving in. She organises protest meetings against them living nearby. The protests start to get violent and Frankie is worried about Emilia safetly. She loves school as the gypsy parents normally don't let her go and whenever there are problems in the community that they live in, they just pack up their bags and move on again. She has trouble settling into any school. Frankie wants to help but being so shy has trouble crossing the language barrier. A moving story of prejudice and the betrayal of those we love.
