Girl Got Game, Book 1

Power!! (Girl Got Game) is a very good shoujo series. It's about girl named Kyou Aizawa, who ends up entering a high school known for 1. their very cute uniforms, and 2. their elite basketball team. It turns out that Kyou ended up entering the school as a GUY rather than a girl (poor Kyou, she didn't get to wear the pretty uniform>_< this was all her dad's plan). <br /> So, anyway, when Kyou started school, she met Eniwa Chiharu, who is on the team. She didn't have a very good start with getting to know him, and later, they end up being roommates in their dorms. <br /> Kyou has to go through many difficulties to be act as a guy and not be found out. When taking a bath, she has to make sure that the coast is clear, and that no one would come in, so she takes it while everyone else is having dinner. She has to wear the boys' uniform, and so no one will become suspicious, she also straps down her chest. <br /> This is all I'm willing to share, for those who have not read this series. Good series, and has the same cuteness as Seino-sensei's other works, such as Heaven!!, and Suki Suki Darin (those aren't released in the US yet. I read from scanalations). <br />If you read this series, you will find it has similarities to Hana-Kimi. Well, good reading! Ciao! Girl Got Game has now currently released 7 volumes and will have 10. As soon as I read it online I immediatly went to the store and bought 1, 2, and 3 on a whim! I have never done that before when buying manga. After I read 1, I fell in love with this story right away. It is about a girl Kyo Aizawa. Her father's dream was to become a basketball star but because he couldn't make it that far he enlisted Kyo into a BOYS basketball school instead of a girl. He decided to have her live out his dream. So unwilling to refuse her poor father, Kyo cut her hair shirt, tied herself down, and went through with it. I will give and overall saying about all of the volumes because there is too much to tell. Throughout the story Kyo and everyone around her grows as a person. Kyo is thoughtful and kind, yet she forgets she's a girl sometimes. Slowly thoroughout the story Kyo takes and interest in her roomate, Chiharu Eniwa. The two get to know eachother and become friends. With Chiharu knowing her secret, how long do you think Kyo can keep her secret from everyone else? This manga has a very good comic effect in the artistic ability put into it. Recently I picked up Peach Girl from the library and looked and saw that some of the drawings in Girl Got Game, the facial expressions and mouths were used from Peach Girl. Even though the drawing is similar, the story is not. While on the subject of comparison, Hana-Kimi. Hana-Kimi has the same exact story line except the girl Mizuki, is in track and goes to a boy's track school just because she wanted to meet her crush Sano. I don't know which came first in Japan, but due to the fact that GGG has 7 books out and Hana-Kimi only about 3, I assume GGG came first. So if you like Hana-Kimi, you will love this. Even there is a scenario when each of the girl's fall asleep in their roommates beds'. The characters in this manga are portrayed well. You will get to know the characters easy with no confusion. There are many suprises within the story as well. Kyo's personality is so complex as well as Chiharu's. Hamaya is quite funny and Tsuyaka Senpai is creepy. Also, the author drew the character's expressions so widely different from eachother that, of course when someone is distessed, you CAN tell. I really wish this would turn into the anime for the simple fact that this is amazing. I think book 7 was the one that made me laugh the hardest so far. I don't know when I have laughed so much. Many strange things can happen when you're a girl infront of males all of the time. What keeps me in suspense is Kyo and Chiharu. In book 7 they came very close to something and I squealed. The author uses tastful perversion (now that's a phrase you don't hear every day) also to add comic effect. I guess you could consider this Shojo manga. So if you like cross-dressing to get the man of your dreams buy Girl Got Game with no delay!

This shoujo(girl) manga series was originally released by KC Betsufure(Kodansha) under the name POWER!!, a much more suitable name than "Girl Got Game," and is complete at 10 volumes. This review is based off of the original Japanese version.AIZAWA Kyou is a highschool student who has just moved to a new town with her father. She is entering a new school and couldn't wait to try out the new cute girl's uniform. She opens the box containing the unfirm given to her by her father, and what does she get? The boys uniform! ^^ Her father, being a huge basketball fan, has raised her to be an amazing basketball player, and has enrolled her in this school just so she could be in the championship BOYS team. Well, she can't change anything now, so off with her long hair, and on with the uniform. She really loves to play basketball anyway. ^^School starts and Kyou(the girls find her quite cool!) soon finds the basketball court with a game of 3 on 3 already going on. One of the players has caught her attention because of his obvious passion for the game, and in her excitement, she immediately goes to join the team. The coach decides to give the new 'boy' a chance, and Kyou is now in the game. To her delight the guy she saw is on her team! However, once the game gets going, she finds that he(ENIWA Chiharu) is just a plain rude guy, and royally pisses her off, leading her to really show her skill. IMAI, captain of the team, is amazed with 'his' skills, as is everyone else on the team, and states that Aizawa and Eniwa to be a great pair. Needless to say, the two aren't happy. Of course, this being a shoujo manga, this isn't the only time these two will be together, for Kyou finds out, in a rather embarressing way, that Eniwa is now her roommate! ^^ This series is full of comedy, basketball action, romance, and a little drama, all mixing together to make a great shoujo comedy romance. This has been one of my favorite series for several years, and I hope you will enjoy it as well. ^^

The story of girl got game goes like this: Kyo Aizawa is a teenage girl who just wants to live a normal teenage life, but her father, whom used to be a basketball player and wanted to make it to the NBA, is now determined to live his dreams through his daughter. She is going to attend Seisyu Academy, and can't wait to try on the "famously cute" outfit, when she finds out that her father registered her as a boy and cooked up a scheme so that she would play on the boys basketball team and become the basketball play he always wanted to be. Aizawa grew up p,laying b-ball with her father, but all she wants to do now is quit and get a boyfriend and where the GIRLS Seisyu uniform. When she gets to Seisyu, she meets Eniwa Chiharu, a moody guy with a bad temper and a lot of passion for the game of basketball. He ends up being on the basketball team with her, and sparks fly. Then they end up being roomates. They just can't seem to get along, which isn't good when you live in the same room. But there is a secret behind why Chiharu is acting all moody and cranky, and Aizawa wants to get to the bottom of it. And that's part of what bugs Chiharu so much. We've seen the scenario of a woman dressing up as a man or a man dressing up as a woman billions of times. What makes "Girl Got Game" different and worth reading, is that, it focuses on her relationships and girl problems instead of how funny it is to dress up like man like in most of these things. It also centers around Chiharu as well, not just her.And the comedy develops mostly from her trying to behave like like a guy and fit in. So, yes, the description and name of girl got game make it sound like an extremely generic story. And if that is why you were hesitant to get "Girl Got Game", never fear, it is not gerneric, it has a lot of heart, and it is quite funny. I have good feelings about this new manga, its already very good, and I have the feeling that it will only get better with time. Volume 2 can't come soon enough!!!! So *enjoy* & God Bless ~Amy
