C'mon Sonia, Write a Fourth One!

I love Sonia Singh. I want to say that right away. I've read all of her books, and I've loved each one, from Goddess for Hire (my favorite) to Bollywood Confidential to (now) Ghost, Interrupted (what a great title.) Here's what I love about Sonia Singh: her writing is fun, fast, and funny. There is not one of her three books that didn't compel me to read on. Once I've read the first page of one of her books, I know that I am going to have a very difficult time getting anything else done for the rest of the day. This is the case for Ghost, Interrupted. The book is not so much a departure from her first two (categorized as chick lit, but I'd say a little more than that), but a mix of the romantic with the supernatural. The heroine (and her voice) are very similar to the heroines of the other books, which is just fine with me, because I like this voice. I also like all the characters, especially the core three here, and wanted to hang out with them. It's true that Singh's writing style is often rather simplistic. She stays away from lengthy descriptions most of the time and often moves very quickly, with remarkably short paragraphs, and scenes that end abruptly (although they do have resolutions.) At times, her writing does tend to be written for readers with ADD; however, if you can see past that (or if you yourself have ADD), you will enjoy the book. Overall, I am satisfied with Sonia Singh's third book and I look forward to her next one. I know that when it comes, I'll have a new, warm, familiar friend to immerse myself in for a day or two.

Perfect light reading for general-interest fiction readers.

The Cold Spot is a ghost-hunting firm based in San Francisco and run by a reluctant psychic, a businessman and a telekinetic cowboy. These three band together to form a ghost-hunting business - and find themselves with more haunting than they can handle in GHOST, INTERRUPTED: a lively story with more than a dose of humor added to the ghostly mix. Perfect light reading for general-interest fiction readers. Diane C. Donovan California Bookwatch

fun paranormal tale

In San Francisco, former stockbroker wealthy Scott Wilder opens up the Cold Spot paranormal private investigative firm. He persuades Indian-American psychic Anjali Kumar and telekinetic guru Coulter Marshall to be his partners. The trio evicts unwanted supernatural visitors from the homes of their clients. However, the mix is not smooth as Anjali hesitates to use her gift while roguish Coulter abuses his. Still Cold Spot begins to earn a reputation as the company to call when the supernatural overstay their visit. They hit the big time when DOD hires them and their rival firm headed up by Scott's former girlfriend Vivica Bates to cleanse a military facility of a dangerous apparently evil spirit of a soldier. Though the ghosts serve as background and are not frightening, GHOSTS, INTERRUPTED is a fun paranormal tale (thriller might be too strong). The divergent attitudes between Anjali and Coulter add depth as she has doubts about using her power especially frivolously while he does not thing twice of abusing his prowess. The story line is driven by primarily the lead three, but to a degree Vivica and her off the wall partner Hans add to the plot with their rivalry. Ghostbusters fans will appreciate this lighthearted ghostly frolic. Harriet Klausner
