The last couple of Nikki Turner novels I was not feeling. But Ms. Turner redeemed herself with this one!! I loved it!!! Fabiola Mays has been singing since she was a little girl. Her mother Viola and sister Adora are her biggest fans. Fabiola learns that everything that glitters is not gold after facing hardships in her personal life and career. When Fabiola wins a singing competition she thinks her dreams are coming true...only the company sponsoring the contest is bankrupt and there is no prize!!! Fabiola and her family return to VA only to be evicted. Local hustler/businessman Casino Winn comes to their rescue and allows the Mays to live rent free in one of his homes (for 3 years!!). When Casino is shot and expected to never walk again, Fabiola reaches out to the man who saved her in her time of need. They develop a genuine friendship and he becomes one of Fab's biggest supporters. But the road to the top is never easy and Fabiola may soon find out that her success and talent is not appreciated by everyone!!! This book was sooooo good to me I read it in 2 days!! I am hoping for a sequel because that ending left me with many questions!!

This book was excellent. I am excited for the part 2 that we all know is coming. Hopefully it want take forever to find out where are precious Ghetto superstar ends up and just who's out to get here. The retribution should be fantastic!!!

I give a 4.9 I can't give 5 because I am mad it has a sequel...... It starts off a little slow then picks up once it pick it's all good. Other than that it's a good read, it flows very nicely. This book reminds me of a cross between the five heartbeat/Jackson 5 and some gangsta movie. The characters are crazy you have Fabiola ( Micheal Jackson) Then there's viola her mom (Joe Jackson). then you have Johnny Wizard (Big Red) then you have the group she sings wit before her big break Ricky Chunnaly and the Band (Bird & The Midnight Falcons). Then you have Casino he's an oldschool hustler and his boy Tonk and Casino's son Spade. Oh yeah can't forget Fabiola's sister Adora and her Brother Ocean. The combination of all these character makes for a really good read. If your looking for the naive girl down her luck hooks wit the rich dope boy who make all her dreams come true this aint it. It a story of a young girl trying to reach her goal the right way by standing up for herself and not compromising her morals or self respect to get it.
