A Must Have for Your Career Development

Farr's book was recommended by my thesis committee member and now I recommend it to students that I mentor. Too bad Betty lumped Farr's book with "What color is my parachute". I was never able to slog my way through that book, but did many of the exercises in Farr's book while doing nordic track because they were so straight forward. I liked how he has you 'free-thinking' about what career you would enjoy if there were no limitations and then helps you bring that back to reality so you can see what IS possible for you to do with your career right now. The step-by-step exercise of breaking down time to meet your goal was invaluable as I was finishing my PhD research. And I still use it today. I strongly feel that his book gave direction to my career. I currently enjoy my position as a director of a department in a pharmaceutical company.

This book won the top career book of the year award

I am this book's author and think it worthwhile to note that this book won the Publisher's Marketing Association's "Best Career Book of the Year" award. This was a surprise for me since this is a workbook that includes text with lots of in-the-book activities rather than a typical bookstore book that is almost all text. This is the fourth edition, so it has been carefully improved over time and has had excellent editorial and design work. It has now sold more than 400,000 copies, a most flattering and humbling situation for me.

This was excellent

This book is worth buying. It has very practical advice and a system about how to go about a job search in the non traditional way. I would also recommend Richard Bolles' What Color is Your Parachute and Howard Figler's The Complete Job Search Guide.
