A scientific text, explaining the elements of weather and climate, the characteristics of climate regions, and the effects of climate on plant and animal life. Bibliogs. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Though the 4th edition is now out of print, "General Climatology" by Chritchfield is an unusally well rounded book, covering all aspects of weather and climate in a no-nonscience straight forward manner. Frequent charts and graphs as well as very clear black and white photos illustrate the topics very clearly. Not only does the book cover current climetology, but explores past climate change and future modification as well. Opinions are held to a minimum, and always understated, so as to let the reader know there is some controversy over various topics, and that research is inconclusive at the time of publication. Over all, one could do much worse in a college text book. This is one volume that you'll want to keep on your reference shelf for future use. (Currently being used at Mississippi State University's Broadcast Meteorology Program, which is where I ran into it.END
