Book Overview

"It's also a great resource for those who identify as nonbinary or asexual as well as for those who know someone who identifies that way and wish to better understand." -- School Library Journal (starred review)

In 2014, Maia Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, thought that a comic of reading statistics would be the last autobiographical comic e would ever write. At the time, it was the only thing e felt comfortable with strangers knowing...

A Book Everyone Should Read

I am not one for memoirs, but this is one I will forever recommend to everyone. The story is beautiful and touching, with emotional illustrations and scenes that will live rent free in your mind. I think everyone should read this at least once, as it gives a more in depth understanding of gender and the journey people go through to find themselves at a place where they are at peace with themselves. This is an essential read for parents and those who better want to understand the LGBTQ+ community.

I made a friend in this author.

I made a new friend with this author. A great reference for those looking for validation or those seeking to understand the non/binary. It’s about friendship, family, accepting and loving yourself. We see the hard conversations that many of us need to have with family and partners. Great book for all humans. High school and up. Stand up for your pronouns and your gender identity. You’re worth it.

‘Gender Queer’ validated so much of my gender experience and gave me the vocabulary to explain it to

Amazing book. I highly recommend it to anyone exploring their gender as well as the loved ones of gender non conforming folks. My partner read this after I did, and it definitely helped him better understand my experience of gender. It's also an easy, quick read without sacrificing quality. Highly recommend. I will always read “banned books” because they often have the most to teach us. I hope you will too

A coming home

I loved seeing a memoir of someone with parallel life experiences. I don't see that often. This book has wonderful references to media, studies, and theories relevant to growing up non-binary. This book offers solidarity to people who do not fit within the classic gender binary, and it offers insight on that experience for everyone else. I cried tears of hope and joy the first time I read it and have purchased for friends and family to help bridge their understanding of me.

An important book

This book has been changing things for the new generation. It's not fair it's getting negative reviews because people want to silence the author, and gender queer people.
