When Giuliano's father loans him the family garage, he and three of his friends form a band. Playing their battered secondhand instruments, the four teenagers find something they love to do, and they find in their friendship and music a refuge from difficult and turbulent home lives. But when their only amp blows a fuse, a desperate search for some new equipment lands them in more trouble than they ever saw coming. Written and painted in stunning watercolors by the renowned Italian artist Gipi, GARAGE BAND is an introspective meditation on teenage life.
Hey all! I read the graphic novel Garage Band by Gipi. It is so interesting and the artwork is amazing. The story is about a group of teenage boys, their garage band, and what happens when they blow an amp. It's a very simple story but intricately reveals the pasts, relationships, and personalities of each boy. Did I mention how amazing the drawings are? They are so detailed and captivating, especially when the band is practicing a song. You, the reader, feel as if you're at a concert watching them perform. It's a quick read, as most graphic novels are, but it really gets its message of never giving up across. I definitely recommend this title.
Teen angst

Great art, flowing through a story about the ups and downs of a band, the disconnectedness of teenage years, the wrong path and the right one. There's tolerance and understanding among the kids--one of whom is attracted to the swastika and all things Nazi, and his attraction is better understood by his bandmates than by his close relatives. There's a close call with the law. A groupie girlfriend, the streets, a real, almost-gritty millieu. Worth the read.
