Fuse of Armageddon

I tend to read more nonfiction than fiction, but I must say I've enjoyed all 3 books in this series. All 3 have been definite page-turners. The plot is a little complicated at times and it can be hard to keep track of what's going on. Especially since the book keeps you guessing at a lot of characters' real intentions (which is one of the things that keeps this book so interesting). Although the book makes no effort to make the ending surprising, the characters keep you guessing and there's suspense until the very end. One reviewer commented that this book is a bit of a Trojan horse for Hanegraaff's ideas, which is true. A few scenes were obvious devices to work the theology in, but at least the scenes were still plausible and didn't seem too out of place. As Hanegraaff often says on his radio show, ideas have consequences, and the authors try to show that here. Dispensationalism has major consequences for the Middle East and our foreign policy. My only complaint was that this book was completely unrelated to the last two in the series. I hope the authors write another "Last Disciple" book soon so I can find out what happens to those characters too. Overall, I'd recommend this book, both for its ideas and the story itself. It's very good on all accounts, and a very worthwhile read that will certainly entertain you and may transform your thinking while it's at it.

Just a good thriller! First book I have read by either of these authors and I was very impressed!

I've read a lot of books about the eventual second coming of Christ--the fiction, and a few of the nonfiction. I've studied Revelation, I've spent long hours thinking about what it all might mean. I'm not alone in that, I know. Millions of Christians, of Americans, are preparing themselves for the End. But not until I read Brouwer & Hanegraaff's novel Fuse of Armageddon did I stop to wonder who I might be hurting with my beliefs. Jonathan Silver is a well known TV preacher who's been made famous for his studies of the End Times. So when he and his tour group go missing from Jerusalem, it's news that rocks the world. Professional hostage negotiator Mulvaney Quinn is brought in to handle the case, in spite of the fact that stubborn cop Kate Penner is trying to get him back to Vegas to face charges of murder. As the stakes rise and the tensions soar, they uncover a plan that could very well trigger the ultimate war. . . which is just what some people want. Fuse of Armageddon is a fast paced, action-packed thriller that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can. But what's more, it'll make you think. Through the eyes of Quinn, who has lived as an American in the Middle East for a decade, we see a new side to the End Times debate--the socio-political one. He explains how the rest of the world sees evangelical Christian views, and how the actions taken by Americans have upset the balance in that war-torn area of the world. Fuse of Armageddon puts faces on the players in the conflict and perspective on the situation. It's also an amazing tale in and of itself, appealing to that love of secret societies and hidden agendas. If you've read and loved other End Times novels, then this is a must-read. If you've put them off for one reason or another, then this might be just the book you want to read to provide that educated look, along with mind-blowing entertainment. The action will keep any lover of suspense on the edge of his seat, and the character development will pull you right into the story along with them. Fuse of Armageddon is a book you won't want to put down--but when you do, you'll come away with a new perspective of the world you live in.

Mulvany Quinn knows the name of the terrorist responsible for killing his wife and daughter. Safady. A name that strikes terror in the hearts of all who hear it. Quinn wants to find this man and make him pay for what he has done. He's in Israel working at Corporate Center Terrorism International helping negotiate the release of hostages. A ticklish job, and one complicated by Quinn's personal issues. Back home in the USA, Kate Penner, Vegas homicide department, discovers a van parked in the desert with the body of an Arab man hanging upside down inside. His shirt has been cut open and a gold colored piece of paper in the shape of a cross has been cut from a poster of the Dome of the Rock and stapled to his back. The evidence point to Mulvany Quinn as the killer. Kate goes to Israel to arrest him and bring him home for trial. But Safady kidnaps a bus full of American tourists and demands Quinn be the negotiator for their release, which puts her plans on hold. Apparently Sigmund Brower can't write a bad book. Fuse of Armageddon is crammed full of rapid fire suspense that will keep the reader on the edge of his seat to the last page. Strongly motivated, well developed characters keep the plot moving. Highly recommended.

Hostage negotiator Mulvaney Quinn understand middle east politics and what could trigger Armageddon. As Quinn works to broker the release of 30 wealthy, American, evangelical Christian hostages, from Palestinian terrorist Khaled Safady, he discovers a plot that could begin the great war. In an unlikely alliance with a Nevada cop, the two of them have to work quickly to save their lives and to stop the multiple attempts to start the final battle. How I love books that challenge my thinking! I think it's safe to say Fuse of Armageddon was written with the intent to counter the dispensational viewpoint. While it does a good job of explaining dispensationalism and the `holes' in this view point, I would have liked to have seen more time spent presenting the author's opinion on the scriptures used to support dispensationalism. A lot of great points are made in regard to how dispensationism's natural course leads to racism and prejudice, how it begs radicals to make their own plans to rebuild the temple instead of waiting on God, and how it encourages Christians to focus on Christ's return instead of his current work. At times though, I did feel the story got a little bogged down with the repeat of similar arguments, just from different people. I'm always impressed with how easily Sigmund Brouwer can write so many different styles seemingly with easy. I've read his slow southern approach, historical fiction, serial killer mystery, and now a fast paced, middle east thriller. If you're familiar with Brouwer, you won't be disappointed. As with previous books, Fuse of Armageddon is well written with excellent characters. From the hero Quinn to the terrorist Safady, each character is developed with a personality and a voice worth listening to. As strange as this may sound, even the cold-blooded terrorist made good points. With the immense popularity of end time books and often questionable theology that accompanies those books, Fuse of Armageddon is a nice alternative that encourages the reader to look at all people as loved by God, not just Jews and Christians.
