Jean Yves Theriault, one of the greatest kick-boxers of all time wrote this primer in 1983 and as a primer, it still works well for American kickboxing rules (seldom these rules are employed anymore), yet, many of these techniques can still be employed for fitness and fighting alike. The book is co-authored by Joseph Jennings who authored "Winning Karate" and developed the Panther Production martial arts video so popular in the 90s. The book briefly goes into conditioning and use of equipment. Like most primers, punches and kicks are highlighted with pre-arranged sparring movements. Jean Yves was known for his thunderous hooks and hard roundhouse kicks. Nick named the "Iceman" for his steel nerves in the ring, it is a nice collectors treasure for anyone who grew up watching this great fighter. The book works well as a primer on the topic. On the subject of kick-boxing, this book is a nice supplement to Urquidez's "King of the Ring" and "Training and Fighting Skills."
The definitive "bible" of Kickboxing

This is the best book ever written on the sport of American (Full Contact) Kickboxing. The book clearly demonstrates all the techniques of kickboxing in perfect form and detail (a Theriault trademark - precise attention to detail). Additionally, it gives a great overview of the sport, including the history of the sport and the various rules used. The book is definately geared towards aspiring professionals as opposed to curious fans. Filled with rare pictures and insightful anecdotes, this book is a very rare and prized collectors item. Many top level pros of today have their own copy - and consider it a prized possession.
