Frommer's 24 Great Walks in Paris

Paris is, indeed, one of the most delightful and interesting cities in the world. We have had the opportunity to live there for over a year and soon ran out of the famous tourist sites. Walking neighborhoods has become a favorite activity. Frommer's book: "24 GREAT WALKS IN PARIS" is interesting, well written, and gives guidance to walks that are not in the usual guide books. We will be living in Paris from July 1 through December this year, so we are excited about taking these 24 walks. Frommer's 24 Great Walks in Paris

I was lucky enough to spend two months in Paris, and this book proved to be an incredible asset. I went on all 24 walks, and most were amazing. Pros: I was able to find beautiful areas of the city almost devoid of the usual crush of tourists. And of course you go on walks through all the great "must see" sites FULL of tourists. It provides you with about three eating recommendations per walk. I only took advantage of this once and the bistro proved to be quite good. The maps are generally easy to read and the directions easy to follow. The editorial info is good and usually pretty interesting. Cons: This is not as up-to-date and timely as most travel books. A few walks were partially ruined by closed venues and streets (things happen very slowly here, and sites can remain closed for literally years, so the authors have no excuses). Also, a few of the walks were duds. One in particular was the Art Nouveau to Art Deco walk. Sort of interesting... but not. And a few of the walks overlap a little too much. All in all, this is an excellent resource, even if you have a very limited time to spend in Paris. I personally recommend; Pyramids and Palaces, The Bridges of Paris, The Iron Lady of Paris, and Bohemian Montmartre. Not one of the walks is hard, but if you're visiting museums and shops along the way, each walk can easily take an entire day to complete. Oh, and I advise complimenting this book with a good map of the city.
