From Crayons to Condoms: The Ugly Truth about America's Public Schools

The American public school system, once the envy of the world, is now a cesspool of political correctness, ineptitude and violence, yet its administrators demand - and receive - far more funding per child than do higher-performing private and religious schools. From teachers who can barely comprehend English to the elevation of foreign cultures and ideals above our own, from the mainstreaming of violent juvenile felons to demands that queer studies...

A strong choice for conservative parents.

What is going on in the classrooms of America? "From Crayons to Condoms: The Ugly Truth About America's Public Schools" is an examination of America's public school system and the problems with its education outside of the academic curriculum. Written from a strict Christian perspective, "From Crayons to Condoms" speaks on the subjects of multiculturalism, sexual education, evolution, religious tolerance, and more, and explains why certain topics may be objectionable to parents and students. Arranged in a story by story, case by case basis, "From Crayons to Condoms" is a strong choice for conservative parents.

Great look inside our schools

From Crayons to Condoms: The Ugly Truth About America's Public Schools is a great look at the horrors being passed as "educational programs" in the United States today. Read this book if you either have a child in Government Schools (no schools are "Public," as we have no say as to what happens in them) or are considering enrolling your child in one; hopefully this will change your mind. I've already decided to homeschool my children unless there is a good Chrstian school near where we live (I'm in the Air Force so "where we live" is subject to frequent changes.) I made that decision when I graduated from a Government High School in 2002. Hopefully this book will encourage you to do the same; then seek to increase public demand for voucher programs to free children from corrupt schools. To address any nay-sayers; I only graduated 6 years ago and can attest to the accounts given in every chapter in this book. I'm sure they have only gotten worse; and saw them in college as well - so don't think that these are unique or radical claims - this is really happening in our schools.

No Wonder Johnny Can't Read - Or Do Math!

Rap music played during math class; ninth graders performing plays using foul language; assigning a child to read a book about female genital mutilation; surveys of students asking how much money their parents make. All this and much, much more is going on in American public schools. And it's documented in "From Crayons To Condoms" in fast-moving anecdotal notes from teachers and parents. This book is a must-read for every parent of a school-age child. But it doesn't stop with simply documenting the horrors occurring in classrooms across the country. It gives parents tools for preventing their infliction on their kids, help in dealing with what could not be prevented, and legal resources. And there's an invaluable list of entities that evaluate curricula of all kinds. Yes, it's no wonder Johnny can't read or do math...he was too busy learning why Justin has two daddies, what those daddies do in bed and why one of them may need to wear a rubber dental dam in his mouth. Really.

Is it really worth it?

"Can our schools be saved? Yes say the authors, but only if parents are informed and ready to fight for their children every step of the way." This is the exact discussion my husband and I had when it came time for our oldest to start school. We could send her to public school, as long as we were rabid watchdogs over what she was being exposed to and how she was being treated. In the end we decided why fight? We could probably do a better job educating her ourselves anyway. And presto, another homeschooling family was born. It really is amazing what is going on in our schools, and the attitudes that these government employees have toward those of us who pay the bills. I can't believe we're paying for all of these "social experiments". But not with my kids, thank you very much.

A Must-Read for all parents

I was educated in a big-city public school system at the tail-end of the time when education was paramount, not indoctrination. That's why the stories in "From Crayons to Condoms" were so foreign to me. Where on earth have today's ridiculous "educational" notions come from, and why are taxpayers putting up with them for a New York minute? (Hint: Liberals are involved.) From promoting Islam in schools that are supposed to be religion-free to encouraging kids to commit suicide, from the "creative spelling" curriculum to math classes in which students spend their time writing about how they *feel* about math instead of actually *doing* math, it's no wonder that we're getting the stuffing knocked out of us by other countries. Disgusting! This book is a true wake-up call for parents and taxpayers.
