thank god for this book!

i was starting to think from seeing new line's friday movies that they wanted to see just how far out of the realm of friday the 13th they could actually push jason voorhees but this books was perfect! the church/cult angle they went with made the story really interesting. plus scott phillips nailed jason on this one. his bio says that he has written at least one movie so all i'm asking is why isn't he writing a friday movie? and this has to be the first time i actually wanted certain characters to survive, usually jason can kill everybody as far as i'm concerned. over all this was a really good start to the F13 books, i actually found myself reading 4-5 chapters at a time.

Praise Jason!

If you are looking for great literature, look elsewhere; this is a fun entertaining book. Our old buddy Jason is back and there is no stopping him this time. Yu have mass slaughters, sex, slimy people and all the blood and guts you can shake a machete at. A religious cult leases Crystal Lake and resurrects the body of Jason thinking it will do god's work. One can argue in fact that Jason does just that. Add to this a secret government agency sent to the lake to track down and kill hockey mask once and for all and you have the ultimate shoot out. The religious nuts clash with the operatives, and Jason takes care of everybody in his own special way. It's suspenseful and at times you cringe at all the carnage described in the book. As for flaws there are many. Like most F-13 stories logic is thrown out the window. Every possible cliché character known is presented here. Every male in the book seems to be walking with a permanent hard on and every female is either dumb confused or simply a sperm receptacle. While Father Long and his sidekick Wrickles win first prize for the most repulsive slime buckets, the good guys don't' fair much better. In short, there truly isn't one character in this whole book a reader can honestly care about say for Meredith who truly is the tragic victim in all this. While there are descriptions of sex, most of it happens off screen shall we say. The writer however holds nothing back when it comes to the killings. The best scene for me was the fist fight between the female operative and Hobbs. The writing itself is pretty basic at times but again this is pulp fiction meant to entertain and in that it does its job. I felt the ending was a little rushed and I have to wonder how old yellow eyes returns for a second book. I have already purchased "Hell Lake" the second in the series. If nothing else, it provides an alternative to all the so called best sellers out there which for the most part are boring. A fun read to past the time with. Highly recommended for fans of Jason or horror fans in general.

Cut to the chase......

This is going to be quick: Buy this book! It isn't perfect but is extremely entertaining. This would have made a better movie than a few of the sequels. I'm not going to blab on about the story, but any fan of Jason Voorhees will love this novel. I cannot stress this enough- if you love horror movies and fiction- buy this now!

A must-read for true Friday the 13th fans!

This book is brilliant! It captures the essence of the best of the Friday the 13th movies. It appears to be a direct sequel to Friday the 13th Part 7 as Jason is removed from the bottom of Crystal Lake. The writing is sarcastic, witty and suspenseful. I found myself laughing out loud every few pages due to the wildly insane descriptive writing. Other Friday books have missed the mark, but this is dead on writing and storytelling. The author, Scott Phillips, is brilliant. He really knows how to make you despise characters and await their deaths with glee. He has created one of the most despicable and gross characters of all time, Mr. Curtis Rickles, a true abomination! I eagerly awaited his demise. This novel fits in wonderfully in the Friday the 13th universe. Most of the story takes place at Crystal Lake which is refreshing. If you want suspense, horror, sarcasm and colorful and profane descriptive writing that will make you howl with laughter, this is the book for you! A real page-turner! A warning: this book is not for children! It deserves an R rating! This is not for the easily offended.

Welcome back Jason!

I am an avid horror reader and movie viewer. I have struggled through the recent Jason X books and have been somewhat happy the first two and horribly disappointed with #3. However, this is the true return of the Crystal Lake Killer himself, Jason! The book takes an interesting approach with making Jason the "Hand of God" to an doomsday style cult. Much different from the movies, but generally a well paced and engaging book. The writer gives good character background and makes you care for some of the characters, to the point where you're upset when they meet there certain demise with the big boy in the hockey mask. Of course the book has your obligatory human villians that also come face to face with Jason, but their deaths come with a little satisfaction. The book seems to take place around the end of movie 7, if my memory serves me right. The book is to be enjoyed by the fans of the movies and horror writing in general. I have #2 "Hell Lake" on my pile to read next!
