This short volume is the best overview of the French Revolution I have read so far. It is not for ages 4-8 as listed above. It is written for ages 12 through adult with high school age being ideal. It is clever and insightful... and some would deem it irreverent, at least in this country. It does mock both sides of the revolution in a classic British tongue-in-cheek sort of way. The commentary is often really a commentary on the futility of war, conflict, and human nature. Most tomes on the French Revolution spend a lot of time on lofty thoughts, philosophical and political wranglings, and plenty of blame heaped on various persons and events. This slim volume is incredibly effective at getting to the essence of the problem in a straightforward and memorable way. Those who have some appreciation of European history and British humor will benefit the most from this book by John Farman
