Freeform Knitting and Crochet

"Take your yarn for a walk," says author Jenny Dowde, who teaches the freeform "scrumbling" technique. With scrumbling, needleworkers can work unbound by patterns and yet still successfully knit or crochet a project. With just a range of simple stitches and only a few basic techniques, anyone can create lovely and useful household objects and eye-catching wearable art. Full-color photographs illustrate Dowde's methods in action, from completing both...

Freeform Knitting and Crochet

This book is great! You do not need any other book to teach you this technique. If you can only do knit, purl & simple single crochet or you are an experienced "stitcher", this book will allow your "free spirit" to emerge. The book covers everything from color spectrums to endless possibilities for using your finished art form pieces. Nothing you do is a mistake and I love the freedom of creating my own "yarn sculpture".

VERY COOL book for anyone who knits or crochets!

I was a little skeptical about how good this book would be, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! As someone who is more of a "left-brained" knitter and crocheter, I didn't know if I would ever want to do any of the projects in this book. However, even a left-brainer such as myself can get creative with the patterns and ideas in this book. Just like "Hip to Crochet," this is a book that inspires me to pick up my often-ignored crochet hook, in addition to my well-used knitting needles. I like this book so much that I just bought one for my sister who is even more left-brained than I am!

Great book to get started with freeform crochet

I read through most of this book the day I got it because it was that good. There is a section on color theory that helps you choose your yarns, and there are clear instructions on how to put together your "scrumbles" - which are the building blocks for freeform crochet. It is more step-by-step than other books on freeform, which is good for those who need it. The pictures are beautiful and inspiring, too. I'm a long-time crocheter, but I'm new to freeform. This book inspired me to work on my first freeform project - a vest. Crocheters with a desire for more creative expression will love this book!

Go For it!

I love this book, its broken down the walls surrounding the mystery of how to make my own free form garments and helped ease my fear that i can't be that creative! Its well written, with great ideas for projects, even with directions on how to make your own buttons, and has the best discussion on color and how to use and mix it that i have seen. This is the perfect way to use up small bits of left over yarns, especially all the great new funky yarns i can't resist.

Everyone needs to add this book to their crochet library!

From the creative patterns to the detailed stitch instructions, I found this book to be one of the most comprehensive freeform crocheting and knitting books available right not. This book is not only for freeformers but for anyone who appreciates crochet work and creating individual projects. It addresses the fear people have of giving into their "creative" sides. Everything is presented in a logical format without too much "over your shoulder" instruction. Even if you have never tried or heard of freeform crochet, you will be inspired to take your craft into the most wonderful direction.
