Book Overview

When Kris Bjornsen and her fellow slaves were dumped on an uninhabited planet by the alien Catteni overlords, they would surely have died-without the help of Zainal, a renegade Catteni exiled by his own people. But they did survive on the planet they named Botany, and in time they drove the Catteni away from Earth and neighboring planets. Technologically limited but rich in natural resources, Botany must find its place in the newly configured universe...

Freedom's Ransom

This and the other books in this series are very good and a very enjoyable read.

Thanks

It finishes off the collection I have. So now I can enjoy this books anytime I want to.

Freedom's Ransom

I truly enjoyed this book, as this is the second time I have purchased and read it. I have all of Anne McCaffrey's books and enjoy reading and re-reading them.

Keep on going, Anne McCaffrey!

She just keeps getting better.Ms. McCaffrey brings the series of Botany novels further along with this one, the fourth in the series. I won't go into the plot, except to say that it shows just how dangerous the mall really can be!McCaffrey has written a volume of work over her career that nearly matches Asimov and Heinlein. I've read most of the series, although I never did get back into the Helva stories after the original Ship Who Sang. But the Tower series, Dinosaur Planet, Powers, and Doona series are all great. And we needn't even go into the Pern saga. That speaks for itself, whether we say anything or not. This series, about the Botany colonists and Zainal, the Catteni who got dropped with them, is more of the same great writing, but in a decidedly different vein; more brachial than jugular. Read them.

Nitpickers pass on this one

Sometimes, it is good just to read something for sheer pleasure, and not to pick it apart. If you find yourself doing this to a book, it just isn't the time to read it. Put it down and walk away. At a later date, try it again, maybe it will be better this time. This book is really good, because it carries the story into the future. It is good to win a battle, but you always wonder what comes next. I am glad to see that Anne has a co-writer for this storyline. God forbid that anything should happen to her, but sometimes life has twists that we don't expect.Waiting for the next book in the series next year.
