Book Overview

Dorothy Pengelly lived alone in her remote, dilapidated cottage with only her
pets as company. When her old friend, Rose Trevelyan calls round to visit and
finds Dorothy dead she is devastated. And when Rose learns that it wasn't a heart
attack but a case of suicide her suspicions are immediately roused. Dorothy
would never have killed herself - but would anyone have the motive to murder
her?

Lovely book set in Cornwall

These little books by Janie Bolitho are not going to win awards, but she paints a portrait of a likeable, middle-aged lady who is also quite an interesting character in the context of these stories. I think I like her because her choice of subject is usually counter to the usual mystery fodder and also because her characterization of the Cornish locals in her stories is so lovingly drawn. These won't keep you awake at night, rethinking the story line and wondering "who", but you also won't look back at these as anything less than the good use of an afternoon or two.
