a pleasure to read

Dr Baruch has done an amazing job getting to the heart of the stories each and every time. The characters leap off the page. I rarely get up early to read, but this book had me up at the crack of dawn, confusing my cats, but I was too anxious to see what happened next. I await the next book with great excitement.

Emergency Medicine

As a former clinical social worker in a busy urban emergency center, I absolutely loved this book. Dr. Baruch humanizes the patients. Often patients are just "another case". Emergency medicine professionals see a microcosm of life in a daily shift in the ER; the best and the worst. This book presents the context of life in a busy ER with compassion and humor. This book could be used in place of a Journal Club in resident physician education or in curriculum for Literature in Medicine. I applaud Dr. Baruch. Please write another book soon.

An Honest Portrayal of Medicine as it is Practiced Today

I'm an ER doctor, and when I was reading this book, I felt like I was at work. Even so, I couldn't put it down. The pace is brisk, but the book is never superficial. A must read for anyone who is interested in the way illness affects our lives, and anyone considering a career in medicine or in nursing.

Great book by a great writer

What a fantastic book. i hope to see more from this incredible author. He brings to life the colorful charectors of the ER -- from pschyo neighbors to the frat boys swallowing gold fish.

Excellent collection of short stories

Thought provoking for both the doctor and non-doctor... wonderfully written. Frequently leaves you wanting more.
