A FINE NOVEL...FULLY FORMED

I am astonished at the juvenile views aired by some in this place. This novel is fully rounded, with better characters and plot than Asimov mustered. Benford makes Psychohistory compatible for the first time with what we know of real science--introducing chaos theory so you can follow it, and see what a real theory would be like. Plus, it's an exciting read, with many small details of a completely worked out background. Maybe not to the taste of some readers, but better than the other two that followed it, too. I think this 3-book sequence elevates the Foundation series considerably!

Expertly written addition to Foundation lore

I was worried as I started this book, having read all of the Foundation and Robot novels in the past. As I began this journey into Seldon's Trantor, I reveled in the marvelous manner that Benford described the moods and the feel of this world and time. I loved the Joan and Voltaire sections and the dialogue that ensued, as well as the Pan adventure and conclusions drawn from this. I can't wait to start the next book and wait (hopefully not long) for the third !!

A book in the true tradition of the master

This book is a great tribute to the foundation series. It fits in well with the original series and updates it for a noew generation of readers. I belive the style fits well with that of Asimov. The story line answers many of the long standing questions, which one can only speculate from the original series. I would classify it as a must read for any true fan of the Foundation series.

Hard to believe Asimov was not author

I have read most of I. Asimov books and the Foundation series is to me one of the best sci-fi series of all times. So when i saw this book i was in shock and angry. Still i have read previous work by G. Benford and liked it so i order the new book. Once i started i could not stop, read for hours and hours. As i read i felt the style and presence of I. Asimov on G. Benford writing. Benford gives life to the main character in the same way as asimov did. I could not tell that i was not reading an Asimov original. I am looking forward to the other two foundation stories, if they are of equal quality as G. Benford the Foundation Universe is in the right hands

Not Asimov, of course, but so close to him!

I must admit that I was intrigued at first, if not uterly frightened. A sequel to Foundation by - who's that guy - Gregory Benford. Sacriledge! But the spirit of the Good Doctor is there. The historical analysis is there, the dialogues that take precedence over the action are there, the mood is there. Gregory Benford even introduces some new, fascinatingly intriguing concepts. And what does not spoil anything, the fun and the humor pervade the whole book. For an Asimov fan, this is a delicious new addition to the saga. Didier Ghez
