For Loves Sake

For Love's Sake is a beautifully written story about loving for the sake of love. Beginning with the introduction, author Michelle McGriff has created a work of love and fiction at its best. McGriff takes on the real-life issue of sperm donation and cleverly weaves this issue into the storyline. She first introduces us to Nigel Godwins, thirty-five year old white lawyer, whose recurring dreams direct him to follow his heart. In his journey, his life is forever changed and he finds out more about himself. It is the dream that gives Nigel a chance to look at life differently. No longer is Nigel the cold and indifferent person that he was and he begins to guest ion his past beliefs. Qiana Patterson, thirty-five year old African American pediatric nurse, suddenly realizes her biological clock is ticking away. She wants to have a child to love and raise so after extensive research, she decides to have a baby through Artificial Insemination. Qiana meets Nigel and they cross paths in a way that either of them will ever forget. Lorraine, who is one of Qiana's white friends works for the Family Makers Sperm Bank. It was Lorraine who first suggested that Qiana use artificial insemination to have a baby. Lorraine goes against the rules and helps Qiana choose a donor. She provides her with the donor profile and cassette. Qiana listens to the voice and decides that he is the one. Lorraine, who works as a receptionist was not working the day the donor came into the sperm bank. She could not tell Qiana how he looked but she did tell her he was a virgin. Which meant that this was his first time donating sperm. Qiana is artificially inseminated with this donor's sperm. A mishap occurs and leads Qiana to love. Completing the cast of characters are Rufus, Rashawn, Rita and Terrell. Rufus, whose real name is Russell Thompson is Qiana's live in lover of three years. And, although Qiana is totally committed to Rufus, he is a cheater, often using a fake Jamaican accent, he pretends to be someone he's not. Rashawn, Rita and Terrell are other friends of Qiana's who learn about loving for love's sake in their own individual ways. McGriff has done a good job of writing a fast paced, easy to read novel. The storyline is clear but not predicable. For all romance readers this book is for you, it's one which both fiction and romance readers alike will enjoy. Reviewed by Dot

No doubt an intriguing short story.

As a ROMANCE NOVELIST, I found "For Love's Sake" to be a very interesting, short romance story. The structure of the plot made it a page turner, captivating, and the characters were believable--every day people. Most importantly, the twists and turns definitely surprise you, which I'm sure was the writers intent. From one author and name sake to another, Michelle, I honestly admit that you have truly earned my * * * * *! Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to the series. From the East coast to the West coast "KEEP IT COMING, GIRL!"

Sharp Read

I enjoyed For Love's Sake. It was a quick read. A page turner. Starting out with a recurring dream that kinda haunts the halls of the book, I thought the writer did a neat job of bringing that around when you least expected it and tying it into the story. The characters had a quick wit and filled the 147 pages with sophistication. I thought the inter-racial angle was nicely done too. Artifical insemination is not a common topic and I think the writer handled it in a cute tongue-in-cheek style that took on the adult topic of 'Baby Making' without going over the edge with alot of cursing and graphic sex. It was a fun read.

Deep Characters!!

I had the unique opportunity of reading some of this book before it was published and helping with the spelling(just a little). I find that I am drawn into Michelle's books by her strong characters and the way they are written so that they have lives and that you can imagine these people as your next-door neighbors or the people you work with. They are so real, sometimes you forget that they are fictional, and that is what makes her storytelling so powerful. You are pulled in by the warmth of the characters and you want to know what's going to happen to them. You HAVE to know!! KUDOS, Michelle! Keep up the good work!!

You Won't Want To Miss This One

Michelle McGriff has done it again. She takes the real-life issue of sperm donors and weaves a story of love, conflict and intrigue. Set in her native California, the story is an unusual romance novel that really touches the heart. When I write reviews, I try not to give the story away. This is a book that can be read in a day, and that's a good thing. It holds your attention, and you want to know what will the protagonist do? How will she handle the dilemna she's faced with? Will she make the "right" decision? If you want to know the answers to these questions, get a copy of Michelle McGriff's new novel YESTERDAY. You'll be glad you did. Ms. McGriff is a romance novelist that steps beyond the boundaries of the traditional romance genre. She adds twists and intrigue that will eventually propel her into the ranks of some of the great African American romance novelists such as Donna Hill, Frances Ray, Robin Amos and Shirley Hailstock.Looking forward to your next one, Michelle.
