A great walk down memory lane.

I came across this book in a music catalogue search through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. I knew Joe because I helped distribute his Carnival Records label (The Manhattans) in the 60's. What I didn't know about was his remarkable career as a jazz musician and his interesting association with the stars of Bebop. I found his personal story to be well-told and it kept my interest from beginning to end. Since it was published just last year (2008)I realized that Joe was still alive so I searched for him and found him living in Richmond, Virginia. Joe, now 93, is as hip a dude as I could imagine. He continued to learn and do interesting things after his recording and producing days were over. Our conversations were a pleasurable walk down memory lane for both of us.
