Fodor's Philly is perfect for today's short-trip traveler. Three chapters of regional trips, plus the downtown Philly material, add up to at least four getaway guidebooks for the price of one.
I love to research cities and places before going to them. I feel it allows for a better experience. Fodor's Philadelphia is a great tool for anyone visiting or moving to the area.

Philadelphia...a city of American history that steps out in front of you when you arrive. I had the chance to visit the wonderful sights of Philadelphia in October,2004. This was the guide that helped me get introduced to what to expect. From hoagies to the Liberty Bell to the great pipe organ at Lord and Taylor ( formerly Wanamaker's),Philadelphia is another of my favoriet cities. The guide gives its rankings to the hotels, restaurants and sights. Highly recommended reading!

This guide was very helpful during our recent trip to Philadelphia. It fits in a small pocket book. We tried a few of the recommended restaurants and weren't disappointed. Good short descriptions of important places to visit.
A nice resource if you want to visit Philly

I have been to Philadelphia quite a few times; this volume is always a great help. Any book that purports to be a guide to a large city is going to run into difficulties: restaurants come and go--even good ones, so that there will be some obsolescence in the work; some good places will not be listed, simply because of the large number of possible places to visit, dine at, stay at, etc. All that said, this is still a good help for those wanting to spend some time in Philadelphia and the surrounding region. The maps are very helpful in getting a sense of what attractions and facilities are where. The section on dining is quite nice, although it does leave out some estimable restaurants; the discussion of hotels is very helpful and has informed me when I have planned trips to the city. Interested in cultural opportunities? The book does a good job of outlining attractions to visit. And another positive aspect of this particular volume is the description of nearby attractions--from Bucks County to Lancaster County to Hershey to Gettysburg. In short, if you are thinking of a trip to Philadelphia and/or the surrounding area, this is a good companion to have with you to help plan itineraries.

Fodor's Philadelphia is a great travel book to the "City of Brotherly Love". Everything from short hops around the city to great parts on restaurants and hotels, this guide has it all. The overview of Philly is also very well done. As a guide book, this is one of the best, if not the best, to Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
