Fodor's Around Paris with Kids

We bought this book for friends who are living now in Paris (and we are French and we know Parish quit well) They have got 3 children and they are thrilled with this book. It gives them plenty ideas to do with the kids. Very easy and good explenation (and it doens't stop with the main attraction!) So if you are going to Paris or somebody is going to live there this will be a great book!

I had spent a lot of time in Paris in the 1980s and recently went back with my 1 1/2 yr old son. This book was immensely helpful. As other reviewers noted, it highlights areas like Arenes de Lutece and Jardin des Plantes that are less touristy but great for kids. In fact, we met many Parisian families by going to the areas that the Parisians used. In regards to the one negative review, we did buy the 2nd edition (2003) so didn't have any logistical issues...although you should always call ahead in whatever city you may be traveling. As a plus, it's small and easy to travel with. (One minor complaint, we felt that the aquarium wasn't worth the time it took to get there, it is "modest" in size and scope). But the book - Strongly recommend.

I bought this book before trekking on a 4 month adventure to Paris with my 2 year old. The book is very user friendly, and the Parisian site information is very fun and informative. I used this book everyday, and tried to do as many things in the book as possible. What I love about this book is that it not only highlights the main touristy attractions in Paris, but the lesser known parks, such as Arenes de Lutece, and Jardin d'Acclimation, that are a lot less crowded and just as much fun. It also gives many suggestions on how to enjoy the main museums and monuments while toting the kids. Although some of my information (according to the 2nd edition) was a little off, such as which museums are free every Sunday, not just the 1st Sundays, (but that list can be found when you buy a 1,3,or 5 day museum pass), the majority (95%, I'd say) was right.I also really liked the fact that the times AND prices are listed, which is very rare in any guide book.You won't regret buying this one!!!

Purchased this book hoping to find kid friendly eats and places to see in Paris. Was a good starting point. My son actually loved a few of the adult things as well. Suggest you try a tour of the area with a one of the red double decker buses for the older kids.

This is a real gem of a book. We used it extensively in planning a trip to Paris with our 9 year old son, and it was amongst the first things packed. The information is useful, the size is wholly convenient. Nothing glossy, no photos, no pictures at all. I have borrowed all the glossy stuff from the library to read ahead of time, and anything useful have put as margin notes in THIS book, because this is the one I plan to have along. It tells you how to get to each place, opening hours, what to see and do there. Includes information on attractions especially for kids, as well as all the conventional tourist sites, museums etc, emphasising the aspects that are most likely to appeal to kids. It tells you which parks in Paris kids can run and play on grass - that alone has to be worth its weight in gold. If you are a first-time visitor to Paris you may feel more comfortable having a good, conventional guide book along as well, but if you don't need the basics (such as how to buy a metro ticket etc) AND you have children along with you, I reckon you'll want to have this book above all others.
