A whirlwind fantasy fulfillment

I really enjoyed it. It was fast reading and very interesting. I like your natural and honest writing style. The jumps back and forth in time were almost too much, but just as I was beginning to get confused by them, the segments of the time frames got longer and I was able to settle in. I finished it in three evenings and had to make myself put it down each night. That's a good sign. I enjoyed the author's honest and down-to-earth sense of humor. Thank you Mary for sharing your fun creativity. I can't wait for the next book.

Give us more!

Great book! I want to hear more about Berry's adventures and all the fascinating people she meets along the way. I can't wait to find out what happens next. Fly Away is one of those books you don't want to put down but want more after you've finished it. I have actually read it twice.

Enchanted with Fly Away

As a married, and rather conservative soul I began this book feeling unsure whether I would be able to identify the twice divorced, liberal-minded main character, Berry Hatchett. One of the marks of a good story is when a lack of commonalties is unimportant, and especially when it enhances the enjoyment of reading the story, which is definitely the case with Fly Away. We follow Berry on her bumpy ride through her 20's, 30's and 40's and root for her like one would root for a sister or friend from childhood who has chosen a different path in life. We can't help but like her - as an adoring young fan she propped an album cover up on a chair so that she could pretend she was eating dinner with her favorite singer, John Blake. After two marriages, a move across the country, and a full but difficult career,we admire her as she has life pretty much figured out . . . "Life is divided into home, work, and outside interest, and sometimes in your life, you are fortunate enough to be happy with all three at the same time." Reading Fly Away was like spending a weekend with that good friend or sister; it was a comfortable diversion from life. I was sorry to see it end.

Love this book

I got so caught up in Berry's life that I was disappointed when the author started describing John's life. Then, I became immersed in the folk music scene of the early '70s and didn't want to leave that to return to Berry's midwest yuppie days. These characters are so real I caught myself talking to them! And, the descriptions of the times ('75 - '95) are absolutely right on. When you start on this, make sure you have enough free time to finish it because it's impossible to put down.

Great characters

I finished this book in three days and want more! The characters are so real you want to call your friends and say "Guess what Berry did now!" And John Blake is a perfect blend of John Denver's easy going outdoorsman and Kris Kristofferson's sexy outlaw. Ms. Williams does a great job of slipping in little rememberances of both John and Kris' life that fans of both will love discovering. So, when is the next book coming out? How about a movie?
