Four girls whose family lives are difficult compete in gymnastics for their gym, Flip City, the place they feel most at home. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I read Flip City in the eighth grade and remember loving it. I was then a level 8 gymnast and I was impressed with the fairly realistic portrayl of gymnasics in the book. I also enjoyed it because it dealt with the personal lives of the gymnasts and was dramatic at times, rather than just being hokey like many other books for young readers are. My favorite character was Dana, who had an immense fear of the balance beam because her brother had fallen off something when they were playing and had died. Dana blamed herself for his death. I enjoyed Flip City and think other gymnasts and young readers in general would enjoy it as well.
