Everything from bait, spin, and flycasting to fishing rigs and fly tying is covered in this easy-to-read, heavily-illustrated reference book. Tips on fish identification, ice fishing, and lure making are all covered by Kugach, who provides readers with simple descriptions as well as fishing fundamentals that every fisherman should know.
I had lots of fun reading this book, the illustrations are great. I have been fishing for a couple of years, but learned a lot form this book. This is a must have if you are new to fishing. Ps. it only takes a couple of hours to read the whole book.
Best fishing book I own

When it comes to fising, anglers typically want to get the information they need quickly -- knot tying or the common rig for bottom fishing bluegill. This book does provides the information you need quickly without the filler found in many other books of its kind. For this reason I give it a full five stars. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add a section in chapter 5 on Catfish (e.g. live bait flathead rigs).
A Little Gem

This book is really a little gem. Frankly, the hand-drawn illustrations are part of its charm. In addition to being charming, it is very informative and easy to read. It gives information on a variety of techniques and species. I will probably read it again some time soon.
If I could have only one Fishing Book

This is the best fishing publication I have bought in during my 46 years of fishing. Everything and I mean everything you need to know to fish is in this book. Don't let the price fool you. I have paid much more for fishing books but this is the best I have ever found. Pro's and Beginners will benefit. People ages 9 to 90 can use this great fishing book. I wish I had found it when I was 9!
Fishing Basics by Gene Kugach

This has got to be one of the most informative guides to all ages of outdoorsmen and women. The illustrations and information are definately back to the basics. It is a book for all ages! The way to tie all the knots you can possibly use as well as fly fishing tying information not normally found in the average fishing guides. All the information needed to rig, locate, or catch any kind of fish you want. It is truly a find, eventhough it is a fairly old edition from 1993, it is the perfect gift for any fisherman or woman. My husband, as well as I, have refered back to it many times for reminders of certain knots and ties.I feel any fisherman could use this book for reference! It is so full of information!
