Financial Aid for the Disabled and Their Families

This book has the same structure and style as Kaplan's Scholarships (ISBN-13: 978-1419551444). It is easy to read and understand. Each scholarship is listed with an address, contact telephone number, web site, summary, eligibility requirements, amount awarded (financial data), number awarded each year and deadline. All of the numbers that I called and web sites that I visited were accurate and current. It is not organized by the disability. It is easy to "scan" through the scholarships and find those that apply to a specific student. There were scholarships listed that were not found for my college students by Scholarships.com. My daughter has ADD and LD and my son has a clotting disorder. It is limited in the number of scholarships for ADD or LDs, such as dyslexia. There are none for clotting disorders. There are many listed for physical disabilities, cancer, hemophilia/bleeding disorders, and other traditional disabilities. NONE of the scholarships in this book are listed in Kaplan's or other nondisability scholarship books.

This book is full of very helpful information. I believe it could be expanded by including a section for available funds for pre-college educational expenses. My son has Aspergers, Autism, PDD...and we have to send him to a private school to enhance his education. I am sure I am not alone in this category as public schools are overwhelmed by the increase of special kids. Private schools have the small class sizes needed, for a price. Medical benefits do not cover the educational needs. A section addressing this type of funding (grade, middle and high school) would be just the ticket.
