David Mercaldo, author of Ferry, demonstrates a keen sensitivity to the vitality of his city with an acute ear to the daily conversations of his fellow New Yorkers. Pathos, reverie, compassion and maturing are evident with profound clarity. There are lessons to be learned; provocations of thought, and everyone can see someone that fits their personal experience of the City. Mr. Mercaldo has taken the Staten Island Ferry as his stage and made it into a water-skimming platform for his poignant stories all the while masterfully weaving them into a larger tale. This book touches the heart. It is a book to contemplate, not just read. A book of nostalgic cross-generational stories told with a practiced touch. David Mercaldo draws us into the subtle nuances of a multi-faceted and dynamic city of many souls. If you've ever visited NYC and taken the ferry you will recognize a perspective from this book that only a long-time resident could write. I recommend this book to anyone but especially to those anticipating a visit to New York City. You won't be disappointed in either New York City or David Mercaldo's book, Ferry.
Ferry is a delightful trip

I was pleasantly surprised to board FERRY and take a ride I have never had the privilege of taking before. I live "elsewhere" and have not been to the city in years. But this book took me there. The author is a real story teller and I loved the little adventures that Angelo gets involved in. This really should be a sitcom.
