I liked it but....

Detective Casey O'Toole and her partner Dennis are called to a crime scene that appears to be related to a series of killings from another jurisdiction. When Casey is selected to head a multi-department task force, she is met with resistance from the inept county sheriff but manages to rise above the muck. When the victims are linked to a sexy and prominent plastic surgeon, the widowed Casey finds herself attracted to a potential suspect. Dr. Mark Adams is soon cleared, but continues to find reasons to bump into Casey as the attraction is definitely mutual. Casey shares an attribute of the victims - her curly red hair. When an attempt is made on her life, she has to wonder if she's the next victim. Light on suspense (as many have mentioned, it is easy to figure out within the first few chapters), overall, it has an interesting plot. With the exception of Casey and Mark, most of the characters are not fully developed, the dialogue is pretty stale (do you know anyone under 70 who says "oh dear?"), and Mark's premature protestations of love within days of meeting her make the romance unbelievable. There was just too much going on - between the murders, the office politics, the delivery of her cousin's twins, the family dynamics, and the romance... the story just seemed incomplete. I love Gray's plots, but her inability to create realistic dialogue and overpopulated storylines keep her books from being 5-star reads.

Is it worth reading?

Despite the fact that I guessed who the killer was rather quickly, I still think it is undoubtedly a great novel. Some might argue that it is your basic cop chases killer novel which seems to overrun the world today, but it is written with such elegance that it cannot be so simply lumped into that category. Her characters are colorful and somehow this writer just sucks you in. It's almost impossible to put down. She has a unique style of writing that flows into your mind. With a lot of books it is sometimes difficult to keep all of the details straight because you're supplied with too much information; she gives you just the right amount. A lot of books that I have read also have unnatural dialogue, and oftentimes characters seem to do things that just don't fit with their personalities, Ginna Gray does not have this problem. In this book the characters are not only fascinating but also well written, and well liked. This is the only book that I have read by this author, but I do fully intend on buying another one of her books. I found it to be a good book to read in the bathtub, and that is when she transported me to Mears Colorado.

Very Good Book

Casey O'Toole is a detective in Mears Colorado. She is 29 and a veteren police officer. Her whole family are cops as was her husband. She and her husband, Tim, grew up next door to each other and married right out of high school. A year and a-half ago Tim was killed in the line of duty. Although a tough cop she is niave and innocent where men are concerned because she only ever dated her husband and they had decided at 14 they would marry. Dr. Mark Adams is a plastic surgeon whose patients are being murdered by a serial killer. They are raped and then set loose to be hunted by the killer. Mark is attracted to Casey but it's hard to court a woman who doesn't know the rules. Happily Casey has her own rules and they include respect, integrity, and not hopping into bed with the first man who rings her chimes. It was so nice to finally meet a heroine who had a few morals. The murder mystery is OK but you pretty well know who it is right away. That is the only reason I gave it a 4 star rating. The story is really more about the relationship between Casey and Mark and their families. I loved it. My daughter loved it. and you will enjoy it too. The ending has all the excitement you could want and the romance was great.

The Reason Why You READ Suspense!

This is the first time I've ever read Ms. Gray, and it will not be the last! This was an amazing fast-paced read that will captivate the reader. Filled with great characters, and a suspense storyline that will leave the reader impatient for the action packed end, Ms. Gray will pull you in with little effort. Casey O'Toole is a strong, sassy, Irish cop. She and her partner Dennis Shannon catch a murder call that will lead them both on a dangerous hunt for a serial killer that kills women that share a similar trait with Casey. While investigating a led Casey finds herself in Dr. Mark Adams office. Her instant attraction to the very handsome doctor is something she's not sure how to deal with. Certainly someone as good looking as Mark would never, in a million years find wholesome Casey attractive. Or would he? Soon the investigation heats up and it's a race against the clock to catch a killer before he kills again. At the same time the attraction between Mark and Casey heats up but will they admit to the passion and love that they feel for each other before a killer takes happiness away from them? Again, this was a wonderful story. I love Casey and Mark. Their relationship was wonderfully developed, and at the same time Ms. Gray developed the serial killer storyline with attention to details. Wonderfully colorful secondary character only addes to this page turning read. The reader will easily be transported to Mears, Colorado and into a story that will leave readers looking for more from the talented Ms. Gray. Official Reviewer for www.romancedesigns.com

FAtal Flaw

This was the first time reading a Ginna Gray book and I must say it was 'a can't put down' book. I literally was up til 5am reading. The first chapter had me hooked with it's high pace and errie feel. Then the warmth of the characters and the mystery of the plot kept a fast pace enjoyable flow. I found the good Dr. Mark the perfect male lead any womans ideal man for the most part and Casey's wit facinating. The mystery I found was a bit to easy to figure out but none the less I was shocked I was right. I will read it again and will buy more of Ginna's books. A must have for any romance/mystery fan.
