Far from Home

Far from Home was different from most of the books I read. The book kept your interest throughout. All of the characters were very colorful and would probably relate to people we know in our own lives. I did not like the ending. For me it left too many unanswered questions.

//Far From Home// is the story of the interconnectness of people. At the heart of the tale is Jo, a young girl betrayed. After failing out of her first semester at college, and an unplanned pregnancy, Jo leaves home with little but a small bag of clothes and no idea of her destination. Somehow she ends up at Cass's Roadside Café, a tiny diner off the side of the highway. Throughout the day we are introduced to a wide variety of characters including Archie, a long-haul trucker; Bob, a cop with a secret; Cass, the owner; Eunice, an older woman full of regrets; Pink, a roaming hippie who allows the wind to determine his path, and on and on and on. While Jo serves as the anchor of the story, characters drop in and out, telling their story and moving on. //Far from Home// is very well written and author Anne DeGrace shows a lot of promise. I'd be interested to see what she does in the future. I believe with another book or two under her belt, she could be a brilliant author. While each character had an incredibly interesting backstory, there were simply too many to keep track of or develop a full connection with. A little trimming would have made this story excellent.
