Faithful Unto Death: Fifteen Young People Who Were Not Afraid to Die for Their Faith

This wonderful book tells the stories of a group of young sixteenth century Anabaptists, who stood firm in their faith, in spite of all the costs. Divided into fifteen chapters, the book actually covers sixteen young people (one chapter covers a pair of sisters); thirteen eventually became red martyrs (murdered for their faith), two became white martyrs (suffering intense torture for their faith), and one who stood by his mother, through her suffering and eventual martyrdom. But, this is not merely a recitation of tortures and murders; instead, it is an uplifting look at these people's faith and love for their fellow humans, with the people speaking for themselves through the writings that they left behind.This is an excellent book, one that is surprisingly uplifting, considering what it is about. In all ways, I found it to be superior even to Foxe's Book of Martyrs. The author's use of the people's actual words adds a real dignity to what they did, and cannot help but leave you feeling as if you touched them yourself. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Anabaptists, and even those who aren't!
