We had a great time using this guide...

We really enjoyed ourselves in Barbados usiing this guide. Barbados is very compact, and the only town is the capitol city of Bridgetown which is OK but not the best place to hang out in. Thanks to this book we were able to travel to the east coast and visit the small village of Bathsheba, discover the natural areas to the north, and really appreciate what we were seeing. Also, the guide lists small bed and breakfasts and local restaurants. The websites listed were useful as well as the information we found on the publisher's website. We really recommend that you check out some of the natural areas such as Barclay's Park and Welchmans Gully. You should make your reservations before you go, because everywhere can be reached in a short period of time. Although all of the bus routes are listed in detail, we found it easier to rent a car.

A true travelers guide

A terrific guide. If you truly want to feel like you know Barbados in every way, this is the book to use to plan a trip, and to consult while you're there. The author obviously knows the island, and island life, intimately. Using this book makes for a fulfilling journey.

Go East!

This guidebook is excellent! We finally got away from the all inclusives and went to the East Coast of the island. We stayed at a fabulous B & B in Bathsheba that was mentioned in this book. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at the Sea-U guest house. We went over to the Andromeda Gardens which were close and saw beautiful tropical flora. This book had great hiking information in it as well. I am going to remember this trip for a long time and want to thank the author for sending us to such wonderful, not to miss places!

Terrific all-around guide

Harry Pariser's Explore Barbados is the best coverage of the island that I've seen. Besides hotels and inns, restaurants and activities, it details all sorts of fun stuff--like highways are just country roads, notes about the Bajans quirks and Creole rites, sidenotes on Vanilla orchids, odd uses of Aloe, like mothers using it to stop thumbsucking and a wonderful glossary of local lingo. Tidbits are scattered throughout -- i.e. The walking stick around a house may forecast a death in the family. The overall layout and design is nice with easy to read maps, beautiful photos and nice legible type. It's a joy to read and use.
