Expired Vows: A Last Chance County Novel

Trace Bentley, a former police officer now paramedic for Last Chance County, is shocked to see his late wife's best friend Kelsey Scott at a hostage situation. Kelsey is the counselor working with the family that is involved in the hostage situation so she is called in to resolve it. Trace and Kelsay both have issues in their pasts that they need to deal with by allowing God to be in charge. Through a course of "accidents" Trace realizes someone is trying to kill Kelsey and vows to protect her. The question is, will they survive and be able to explore the relationship developing between them. Full of twists and turns, plenty of action, a budding romance, suspense, inspiration and reacquainting with characters from previous Last Chance County books.

Laura Conaway does a nice job bringing the Lisa Phillips' series to a conclusion. The focus of this story besides the mystery is dealing with grief, and both of the main characters have their own personal tragedies to come to terms with. Trace, the hero, is my favorite in the series. There were so many heart-tugging moments with him. Kelsey is a strong heroine who doesn’t let her disability stop her from achieving her goals. The story is clean, with plenty of action and suspense, and has a very nice faith message. The romance is subtle but satisfying. If you’ve enjoyed the other books in the series, you’ll be completely satisfied with Expired Vows.
