Guilty Pleasures...

Okay...yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's like reading the 90210 books in the early 90's. But...it's sooooooo good. If you love Queer As Folk (the TV show), you'll love reading this book about the beginnings of Michael and Brian. The author did a great job of adding a history to the Queer As Folk main characters. It was totally believable (for their lives) and really engrossing. Again, if you love the show...and enjoy it for its guilty pleasures like you probably did with shows like Melrose Place. I was impressed by the author as well. He did a great job of capturing the personalities of the characters, and I could truly hear them speaking the dialogue in my head. This is great light reading for a hot summer day...

New Fan to the Series

I started watching QAF recently. I didn't have Showtime but now that I do, I watch it every Sunday after "Six Feet Under". I figure if I can watch a show that has gay themes, why not watch this show? Speaking of the show, the book is a pretty good read as to how the friendship between Brian and Michael continues to remain despite their differences. The reader also understands as to why Brian is the way he is--unaffectionate, determined, and brash. Michael lives in a childlike existense with his comic books and collectibles. He doesn't open up about his sexuality until prom night when he is forced to confront a classmate and himself. Both Brian and Michael, despite their different paths remain close friends. The book focuses mainly on the friendship of Brian and Michael. The boy Justin was just a hint of what is expected if they were to meet again.

GREAT WAY TO LEARN THE STORIES BEHIND THE CHARACTERS

I have to admit this book was one the best reads I have read in a long time! I could not put it down! Being a big fan of the show itself, it is nice to get some history on the characters. The book does seem juvenile at times, but I just thought back on my times at the age which were juvenile! Like I said earlier it is nice to get the history on the characters as we see them mature in the gay adults we see on the series! Micheal and Brian just have this great friendship that I wish I would have had at that age and a mother like Debbie! That, I believe, is every gay person's dream! This book is a must have and I recommend it to everyone!

Brian & Mikey - The Beginning of Their Journey

Being a tremendous QAF fan I was entralled with the series from the start and still am. This book answered so many questions about how Brian & Michael forged such a strong bond and still have that bond. Like the shell bracelet Brian always wears that doesn't seem to go with his designer clothing. It explains the easy and loving relationship of Debbie & Michael. It explains the Kinney family and maybe why Brian is the way he is. As far as the liquor store and the teddy bear...that all becomes clear in Season 1. Just a great and easy read. Like coming home to family and people that you love. I have grown to love these characters and the actors that play them and look forward to each new episode. For any QAF fan it is a book worth reading. I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for the next one.

I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

If you watch the show you've got to read the book. I bought the book on Sunday and finished it on Tuesday. I just couldn't put it down. Every chance I had I picked it up. It shows you what life was like for Michael and Brian in 1989 when they were graduating high school. It is exactly how I pictured it would be...lol. Brian was as wild and crazy as he is on the show. And Michael was the same "Mama's Boy" that he is today. I would definitely recommend picking up this book. I can't wait until the next one comes out.
