Emily Walcott is unintentionally engaged to Charles Bliss, a carpenter whom Emily has known her entire life, but she doesn't feel any spark in her heart when they share a kiss. It's entirely too much like kissing her brother!
Tom Jeffcoat has newly arrived in Sheridan Wyoming. He mistakes Emily for a Tomboy, as she is working at her father's livery. That definitely sets off sparks.
Tom is a horseshoer and he also wants to open his own livery in Sheridan. The land that he purchases is right across the street from the competition, Walcott's Livery. Emily decides she hates him. Tom becomes a great friend of Charles' almost immediately.
Even though Emily and Tom try very hard, they end up falling in love and are very much saddened for the hearts and friendships they will break, once they confess their love.
A great story, I've had it for many years, just adding book reviews to all of my books.
