Captivation

Got this book for my husband and didn't realize it was a series. However, my husband couldn't put it down. I immediately ordered more books by Mr. Bear. My husband has added him to his list of favorite authors.

Stunning

Makes EON look like a childrens book. I wish Bear still wrote books like this.

A thinking piece not an action piece

Eon is a great novel with an interesting and dramatic plot that moves the story along and brings up certain important and interesting themes along the way. Eternity has much less of a movng plot, which is why I think many reviewers don't like it as much. Eternity challenges the reader to think about what's right and what's wrong, and how the answers to those questions make them feel. I think this is an important book from its philosophy, but yes, if you are looking for action, keep looking.

Eternity th Best Ever

Eternity is a sweeping vision defining the plot vein started with Stapleton's Starmaker and Zebrowski's Macroworld. Extending from the near future to the Universe's end, Greg Bear paints a vision of Humanity (extended to all intelligentlife forms)at it's best and worst, and does it with very sympathetic characters, extensive and involved plots, and ingenious predictions on technology and evolution. Plus, The Way - a constructed, self-contained universe made by man. Quite possibly the best Science Fiction I have read. If you read Eon, by Bear, this is a must-read sequal that far surpasses the original.

A decent follow-up, but needs work

I had to read this book after reading Eon, but came out a bit disappointed because the story seemed to stall in places and was not as captivating as Eon. Still a worthwhile work, and I'd recommend it to anyone, SF fan or not.
