This autobiography by Robin Maugham , nephew of famous author Somerset Maugham , is written in an honest , self deprecating and very eloquent tone . Maughams' account gives the reader an original and very intimate view behind the curtain of an aristocratic and politically very influential English family.Maughams' father was Chamberlain and confidant to Winston Churchill . Maugham recounts his childhooddevelopment , his delicate yet steadfast demeanorand his troubledrelationship with his authoritarian father .As Maugham matured he came to terms with his homosexuality and his famous and incongruous relative , Somerset Maugham .Robin Maugham also served proudly and with distinction in the English military , a period of his lifein which Maugham showed true bravery and compassion . The pace of this autobiography is more allegro than andante ; never lagging and always engrossing . The scope is very wide yet very well focused .
