Avoiding illness

Enzymes for Digestive Health and Nutritional Wealth was written by a scientist and mother of two, whose children suffered from pervasive neurological and sensory integration dysfunctions. Karen DeFelice's family became her test group, as she investigated what it took to stay healthy. She and her family struggled with being sick, having headaches and showing adverse effects to their diet. As a mother on a mission, she studied, measured and calculated the interaction between the foods they ate and the symptoms they experienced. The reader learns that "lack of enzymes resulting from eating a diet high in processed and cooked food has been correlated to many degenerative illnesses". Enzymes are necessary in the breakdown of foods to allow the assimilation of the vital minerals and vitamins. "Scientific evidence shows that food and chemicals have a direct impact on our mood, our neurological state, our brain, and our behavior". Anyone that suffers with digestive disorders, chemical sensitivities, AD(H)D, pain, chronic fatigue, migraines, and food intolerances will find this book to be a important missing link in their road to recovery. It is easy-to-read and understand and should be on the shelf of every doctor's office.

Life Changing

This book is very informative and has the potential to change a person's health dramatically! Will recommend to others

Easy to Digest

About ten years ago, I read Enzyme Nutrition by Dr. Edward Howell, and found it to be interesting and informative. Unfortunately, much of the research and information was outdated, so I sought other enzyme related books. It took ten years before I found a book I could recommend, and this is it. Unlike nearly all of the other enzyme books out there, in which the authors promote a particular product or manufacturer that they have a vested interest in, Ms. Defelice gives a very refreshing unbiased approach to the subject of enzymes. Although she refers to one particular enzyme product in the book, this is likely because at the time of publication, it was the only product available capable of giving the results she described (in great detail). On her website, www.enzymestuff.com, she lists several other enzyme products that have since been found to be useful. The author writes in a very friendly, easy to understand style...her detailed description of the human digestive system and its processes is one of the clearest I've ever read. She gives a sense of being an educated scientist, investigator, and concerned mother all in one. If you or anyone you know has digestive problems, autism, autoimmune disorders, etc. then please read this book. And if you simply want to better understand enzymes and their use in human health, this is by far the best book on the subject!

Welcome and highly recommended reading

Digestive enzymes are essential for human and animal life. Digestive enzyme therapy is an important and newly emerging alternative approach to a number of human ailments including autism and such neurological conditions as PDD, sensory integration dysfunction, migraines, ADD, ADHD, food and chemical intolerance, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, bowel dysfunctions, and "leaky gut" syndrome. Author Karen L. DeFelice recounts the compelling and informative story of a group of families that found health improvements through digestive enzyme technology to be incredibly successful. But why? Enzymes For Digestive Health And Nutritional Wealth reveals fascinating answers to that question while also documenting how a diverse array of seemingly unrelated biological issues commonly associated with these poorly understood neurological conditions are addressed one by one with enzymes. There are wealth of scientific studies showing how the observed improvements within these families are document in medical studies. Enzymes For Digestive Health And Nutritional Wealth is welcome and highly recommended reading for the non-specialist general reader with an interest in autism, digestive, and related neurological conditions, as well as an important addition to academic community library Health/Medicine reference collections.

Well-written practical guide to using digestive enzymes

Wonderful account of using digestive enzymes to help the authors family with PDD-NOS and Asberger's, sensory integration disorder, encopresis, IBS, and chronic migranes. It also includes many accounts of other families successfully using digestive enzymes for treating digestive disorders, autism related conditions, and information on relief for arthritis, cancer and other conditions. Wonder how all these conditions are related? Wonder how digestive enzymes could possibly help? Read the book. There is an amazing amount of research on the topic. Chapter three has to be the most interesting and understandable description of the human digestive system and related disorders ever written. I started using the digestive enzymes after reading the book and finally have relief from a life-long battle with irritable bowel syndrome. Plus my arthritic joints are not as sore. Amazing, but logical after you read this book.
