Great for brushing up on topics you may have forgotten

This book is excellent at what it does - provide a broad overview of most of the mathematics that engineers should know by the time they receive their bachelor's degree. This book starts with the idea of numbers and number systems and goes through differential equations and probability. However, most freshmen engineering students start out taking calculus, and this subject is not reached until after page 300. Up to that point, from an engineering student's viewpoint, you are really studying remedial math. However, you couldn't ask for a clearer presentation. The author holds your hand and explains and illustrates absolutely everything he presents. Just don't get the idea that by going through this book you have learned everything an engineering student should know about trigonometry, calculus, etc. The big ideas are here, but you'll need other sources and more background to be an expert. Clearly written and practical math books are hard to come by, so I would definitely recommend it as a reference that should be on every engineer's bookshelf.

Review of Engineering mathematics text book by K.A Stroud

The text book and its CD is the " Invisible lnstuctor on Engneering Mathematics" you will really like to have.

A book that if you lend out , never comes back.

This is one of my favorite books on math: It shows math Step by step and nice clear solutions. It has questions and solutions, not just answers. This is a wonderful book if your busy. Some math academics don't like this book because they want you to play games with stuff. If your studying Applied math , yeah go and prove all the equations till the cows come home. Theres lots of math books where you can play cat and mouse with theory. Anyway, Great for exam cram. Just WOW. All the editions of this book are good. This book will save you time so you can spend it else where. In addition to this book, you need to use MATLAB if your serious about solving math application type problems in control, comms, dsp.( there are some other computer math things about ). Its important to solve lots of questions. You won't be sorry if you buy this book.

The Best Basic Mathematics Book in the Universe

KA Stroud Engineering Mathematics was one of the books on my first-year reading list when I studied for an honous degree in Applied Physics with Microelectronics. Today, sixteen years later, my second edition 'Stroud' is the ONLY textbook from my college days that remains with me, and close at hand. This is particularly amazing when you consider that, immediately upon graduating, I moved into sales and marketing, and today, manage marketing for the Americas for a large information technology services provider. I don't really have much call for solving second order differential equations, but, I keep this book. It's so incredibly well written, and it genuinely makes intermediate mathematics simple to learn.

The most useful textbook for university maths students!

This book by Straud et al. is absolutely brilliant and takes the reader by the hand and guides him or her step by step through each topic without assuming any background knowledge. It also has numerous worked examples and is the best arranged maths textbook I have come across (and I am doing a PhD so I should know!!) The second volume covers more advanced topics which are useful in the second and third year! Totally indispensable, this is a textbook I still refer to till this day and the one I would recommend to any maths students.
