Great read

A great book full of heart and soul, definatley recommend it to anyone interested in the EMS field. There are moments when I thought that it was losing the thread and then you realize it is all part of the same big picture. I have just lent it to my mother so that she can understand a bit better what it is I do (I am also a volunteer EMT)

great follow up

This book describes EMTs to a tee. We never know when we're going to be home, we sometimes don't get to spend a lot of time with our family, and our life is filled with adrenaline, loss, and victories. What more could you ask for in a good book?

A realistic overview of rural rescue squad participation.

I read this, the second of Pat's books, first. I was then compelled to go back and read her first book also. Beyond the glamor and dangers of big city rescue squad operations is the more personal type of work provided by the rural squads. This book as well as her first one capture the essence of these operations well. I am a rescue squad volunteer today because of these books. I have in fact run many calls with Pat and she really is the loving, caring person you would expect from the flavor of her books. Well worth reading for anyone with a concern for others even if they don't go on and become a volunteer themselves.

sensible and emotional

i read this book several times before become a volunteer EMT in Bangkok. This book has many aspects of life in being a volunteer EMT, and they are very interersting. Pat Ivey has written a very good book for every EMTs and paramedics around the world.

Realistic story of a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician

Pat Ivey writes of her stories as a volunteer on a ruralambulance squad. Her tales reflect not only the adventure, but the compassion of those who choose to give of themselves to help others. While reading this book I was reminded of many ambulance runs I have been on and patients I've treated. She also makes you feel the intangibles, the small details of caring and service to others that keep me and so many others volunteering as EMT's.
