Embracing Change: Transforming Life's Challenges With Courage and Grace

Know thyself is the central theme of Embracing Change. On the surface, this sounds like an easy thing to accomplish, something that all of us should automatically be doing. However, anyone who has actually stopped for a single moment and looked deep into their hearts to really truly find themselves knows this is can be quite an overwhelmingly difficult task. Just understanding how societal views, childhood experiences, and fears of perceived judgment fashion us into who we become is difficult enough but then we have to dig even deeper to discover our real self beneath all that mess. Embracing Change is a good starter book for anyone willing to look into those depths. The chapters are fairly short and precise while speaking in an easy going everyday language that virtually anyone will comprehend. Still, while reading through these chapters, I never felt that the author was trying to dumb down the process or talk down to me. I felt more like I had a peer going through the process with me. I think this feeling is especially important to those first starting on their path of exploration because often it is hard to get through the initial worries that someone is going to laugh at or judge you.

Be prepared for a great deal of introspection

Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (4/07) "Embracing Change: Transforming Life's Challenges with Courage and Grace," is a powerfully-written book. The author, David Malin, addresses the four aspects of oneself: the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Each chapter covers issues that need to be addressed to give us introspection so that we can understand our self better. He states, "...Blessed are we when we can come to truly know our self and thus be able to gracefully embrace the many changes we may experience through life." By gaining self-awareness, which is the first step in healing, we can figure out on our own what we need to complete our healing. Malin tells us that our personal healing will benefit others because, "The more we heal our self and become present, allowing our spirit to fill our body again, the more surplus light we will have with which to inspire others." I felt that Malin must have done a lot of healing himself because his writings certainly were inspiring to me. Throughout many of the chapters, I would stop and think, "Oh yeah, that is definitely something that I need to work on." The chapter on emotional denial held a great deal of value for me. It opened my eyes to my need to really pay attention to the discrepancies that appear sometimes, when I am feeling and thinking something differently about what I am hearing. What is being said and what actually might be true can be two different things and it is important to know the difference. This is especially important to recognize because someone might be telling me something that I want to hear, but might not be true. "Embracing Change," is about healing. Malin writes, "...as we learn to heal our self, better embrace change, and become more and more connected within our self we will become more successful in manifesting our heart's desire through our intention." I can't think of a better reason to recommend reading this book. It was meaningful to me the first time that I read it, and I know that it will become more meaningful to me as I refer back to it over the years as my life changes.

A phenomenal resource

Embracing Change is far more than a how-to; it is a roadmap to self-awareness, self-discovery and healing. Highly recommended!

THIS IS A BOOK TO BE EMBRACED BY ALL

EMBRACING CHANGE is not one of the typical self-help books about change or self-healing that seems to be filling up the shelves in bookstores these days. I have read many of these books (i.e. Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, etc.) and they all seem to be saying the same thing again and again. I found David Malin's EMBRACING CHANGE to be much more down-to-earth and enlightening. For he made it easy to get to the heart of the matter by using stories, humor and metaphors that kept me engaged. I was inspired to embrace and not escape change, "to dig in and get down", and really deal with some difficult issues that I had been struggling with. I feel this book is a great book for readers of all ages who are interested in new ways to deal with our resistance to change and to heal ourselves. I am a Massage Therapist and will recommend EMBRACING CHANGE to all my clients! I give this book 5 stars.

Great little book on Change that's actually FUN to read.

As this book seems to be marketed towards a demographic that is getting crowded with names many of us are familiar with(i.e. Wayne Dyer,Steven Covey, etc.), much of these authors works seem to blend together and the information redundant. NOT SO with Embracing Change: Transforming Life's Challenges With Courage and Grace! I found the book a delightful surprise in its ease/personable stance, and contrary to the previous customer's review I enjoyed Malin's writing style and liberal use of metaphors to help the reader grasp a concept. I would definitely say this book is for the general audience even more so than any practitioner. Although many practioners would benefit from the way much of the information is presented. And after finishing the book something tells me I'll enjoy reading it again after some time has passed and I can enjoy the material again from a perspective that only time can bring. Five out of five stars.
