E. M. Bounds

"E.M. Bounds" by Darrel King is a story of the Confederate chaplain during the American Civil War who eventually became a prolific writer and was well-known as being a man of prayer. Interest in this title was piqued by the E.M. Bounds books on prayer I had recently read. Among the areas covered include: 1. Early life in Missouri. 2. Call to the ministry. 3. Happy family life. 4. Civil War battles involved in - Vicksburg, Atlanta, Franklin, etc. 5. Various churches pastored. 6. Itinerant ministry of writing and preaching. 7. Last years. The book's narrative flowed freely, however, there were some typos and historical errors. Specifically the following: 1. There was a General Hardee who served with General Joseph Johnston during the Atlanta Campaign, not a General Harding as described in the book. 2. General Joseph Johnston did not serve at Gettysburg as was mentioned in the book. Robert E. Lee was the commanding Confederate general at Gettysburg in July 1863. During that time, General Joseph Johnston was overall commander of Confederate troops in Mississippi and nearby areas while John Pemberton was direct commander of the Confederate troops in Vicksburg. The errors detracted from the book and I would have given the title 5 stars without the errors. There may have been some others also that were not noted. Still, a good read of the man who would become known as a man of prayer. Recommended.
