Vivid as a painting

This novel by Homero Aridjis is as gloriously vivid as a painting by H. Bosch. Pages and pages full of stunning prose bring the scenes to life in a way I haven't experienced through literature in years. A remarkable story told with shimmering lyricism.

I agree with the previous two reviewers: if you are looking for a history book, look elsewhere. But Aridjis isn't an historian, he's a poet, and this book is sheer poetry, wonderfully imaginative and beautifully written.
