George Leonard was a giant of head and heart. By now you know he co-founded Esalen, the outstanding Big Sur community of seekers. Education & Ecstasy is a testament to Leonard the sage. His prescriptions for reforming education in America are so powerful, they mostly remain to be implemented except in a few very special situations. This book literally changed my life. It explained to me what true learning is. Summarizing its contents would diminish the excellence of Leonard's own exposition. I recommend it as essential reading for any person striving to understand his or her fullest potential as a human being.
