a teacher's dream of a book

Pat Berry's clear and poetic style creates a dream of a book for teachers of college/grad school courses in counseling. Dream group leaders will love it. Echo is the book to choose if you want students to experience a master at work in the art of psychotherapy. The essay, "An Approach to the Dream" is one not to be missed!

Psychology with imagination

No one writes like Pat Berry. She can take you down into the subtlest spaces and the deepest insights, all the while writing as though she were having a conversation with you. Countless times I have recommended her to people looking for an excellent therapist. In that same spirit I recommend her book. It has guided me for many years, and I've stolen ideas from it for all of my own books. Consider the chapter, "Defense and Telos in Dreams." The title sounds fancy, but it explores a basic idea: our emotional problems contain the solutions to our lives. The riches in this book are astounding. It's one of ten indispensable books I take with me whenever I travel for a long period. Thomas Moore

Most Highly Rated

When this book was published in 1982, it was the first and then only down to earth explanation of the practice of the archetypal psychological version of Jungian therapy. Now all these years later, it remains the best expression of practical archetypal psychological work with dreams, fantasies, and behaviors. All the more is the case because of the inclusion of the new essay by the author of "Rules of Thumb." For those really interested in what the psychological practice is all about, this is a must read! Most highly recommended! David L. Miller. Syracuse, New York.

At last!

At last Berry's groundbreaking work is in print again! One of the foremost psychological thinkers of her generation, Berry is a true original. This sparkling collection of essays is recommended to anyone interested in understanding psychic life, clinicians and general readers alike. A gold mine.

a fine collection of her best papers
