A Functional Feast For The Eye and Soul

Curses that Katherine Leone's "Eat In Kitchens" emerged only after I had suffered through my kitchen renovation. This book addresses such a wonderful range of the functional and stylistic considerations that underlie a successful kitchen, obviating the trial and error method for discovering what works. The luscious photographs and layout of each page entice the reader to ponder how daily needs might best be met, from types of sinks, flooring, countertop surfaces, usage zones, islands, traffic flow, storage, seating, lighting and use of color. While the overall feel of the book is clearly modern, the style is not limited to the contemporary but also includes more traditional examples, bringing this book to the forefront for review in planning a new kitchen. Highly recommended.

It opens the door to inspirational yet functional kitchens. This is a complete guide for designers, connoisseurs and builders. A must read for anyone building or redoing a kitchen!

Eat-In Kitchens by Catherine Warren Leone

If you are contemplating a kitchen remodeling project in the near future and don't want to live out of cardboard boxes for two years (been there, done that), do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book. Eat in Kitchens is laid out in an ultra organized fashion and it is a visual delight. From the helpful and detailed but not overburdened information to the beautiful photographs, it is a book that will make your remodeling project a labor of culinary love. I remember when I was a child and we had a breakfast nook in the kitchen; what a great place it was to eat, laugh, talk and share confidences. The resurgence of eat-in kitchens hearkens to that bygone era when life was a little simpler. Now, we have wonderful modern conveniences like microwaves, dishwashers and trash compactors to make the work a little simpler, but we still need that personal connecting point that an eat-in kitchen provides. All the important aspects of creating the eat-in kitchen are covered in chronological order. Beginning with a brief history, through layout, cabinets, color, storage, accessories, and styles, the information is presented in an uncluttered sidebar style with artistic illustrations and sumptuous photographs. The book concludes with a resource guide, a very helpful glossary and an index. Scattered hroughout the book are Green Tips which incorporate new, eco-friendly building materials and techniques. The book is also a Green Edition, printed on recycled paper and made in the U.S.A. Kudos, Catherine!
