In part one of this volume, Christianity, Western philoso- phy, and democracy are discussed as the most influential factors on Korean culture. Part two examines the vari- ous responses of Korean intellectuals to the impact of Western culture. Part three reflects on the East from the Western perspective. And part four is devoted to such an exploration of the discussions on the differences in East- ern and Western approaches to despotism.
