The haunting collection of poems that gathers the first four books of Pulitzer winner Franz Wright under one cover, where "fans old and new will find a feast amid famine" ( Publishers Weekly ), and discover how large this poet's gift was from the start.
Like most poets, Franz Wright's fame and notoriety have been hard won. He is the son of a Pulitzer prize winner, yet stands entirely on his own merit and his legend is well deserved. This book is a collection of his earlier writings, some of which would be difficult if not impossible to find were they not collected here. So, for that I am very appreciative. One of the joys of this book is it allows the reader a peak into the mind of a young genius and blossoming poet. Wright's style and voice were still developing when these poems were originally written. I prefer his newer poems, but these are still tiny treasures not to be missed.
