Davidson, Nicole. Dying to Dance. New York: Avon Books, 1996. 182 pages. " Someone had followed me inside the building. Fear prickled through my nerves as I ran up the steps. Fumbling with my keys, I searched for the one to the studio door. Then my eyes fell on the shiny new lock, and the bottom fell out of my stomach. I didn't have the key to the new lock."(36). This quote clearly shows that Dying to Dance by Nicole Davidson is a very suspenseful and thrilling mystery that will make you never wanting to put the book down. It will keep you guessing until the very end. This wonderful story is about a girl named Carrie and dancing is her life. Her dancing partner, who is also her brother, decides that this year they should find different dancing partners. His partner is Miranda who they have been competing against since they started. Just before the big competition Miranda goes missing and every including the cops are accusing Carrie that she had something to do with her disappearance. Throughout the story as Carrie tries to find out who is behind all of this, she has her parents dance studio broken into, her music and costume goes missing for the upcoming competition, she gets tackled in the dark halls ways of the school, a statue of a mermaid that weighed close to a ton fell on her arm, and worst of all her brother then goes missing and everyone is pointing the finger at her, again. Even though all those bad things are going on she meets Joe who is the only one who believes her and helps her solve this mystery. This author used many descriptive and imaginative words and made it so I never wanted to put it down. I always wanted more and the only part that I disliked was when I finished it and the book was over. I would strongly recommend this book to everyone. It is action packed, exciting, and has a girl who is against the world and only one friend there to help her through everything.
