I used to read this book every night before I went to bed. Even as a young child I thought it was hilarious. I know read it whenever I have to babysit any little kids. The pictures are great and the ideas are even greater. My favorite book of all time, and I have read some great books.
Great present for expectant parents

This is supposedly for children, but makes a very fun present for expectant parents- especially first-timers. It provides welcome comic relief from all those "how to be a perfect parent" books!
How do we interpret what we see of another world?
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
The main reason kids may love this book is clear: the hilarious pictures and the outrageous way the professor, an alien (from another planet) explains life on Earth. One reason parents happily read it time and again is because it can be appreciated on mulitple levels, including one with greater meaning: anyone from one culture may misunderstand, misinterpret or misrepresent what he/she is seeing in another culture. Like Prof. Xargle, we all tell others what we "know". This book reminds us to reconsider and look again. You can lead some great discussions with children after reading this book.

If you are looking for a way to amuse kids from 5 to 10 (and include a few laughs for yourself), sample this charming lecture from Professor Xargle. An alien's hilarious view of babies begs to be read over and over. Brought to life through delightful cartoon illustrations filled with sight gags and amusing details, the simple text is a perfect bedtime read aloud. Add an academic's nasal drone for the full effect and enjoy the sound of your children's laughter.
